FAQs

  • How much does it cost for cafes?

We provide you with an initial stock of cups and lids. Each quarter you pay based on the number of cups borrowed from your cafe. The per-borrow fee is typically less than or equivalent to the cost of disposables. We also provide a return bin, signs, and a cup display, and we spread the word to local coffee drinkers.

  • Tell me more about the cups?

Our cups are double-walled stainless steel, so they keep coffee hot longer, and iced drinks cold longer. Cups nest when stacked and are dishwasher-safe. They’re made of 304 food-grade stainless steel, 75% recycled content.

  • What materials are the lids made from?

The reusable lids are made of silicone, and are dishwasher-safe.

  • What sizes are the cups?

We offer 8, 12, and 16-ounce sizes, with inner markings for barista sizing (e.g. 16 oz cup has inner lines at 16 and 12 oz, the 12 oz cup has inner lines at 12 and 8 oz).

  • How does this work for online ordering?

Add the OKAPI Reusable cup to your online menu as a drink option.

  • What does the Oregon Health Authority say about this?

We’ve spoken with the OHA about our returnable cup service. Cups and lids must be washed and sanitized in the same manner as dine-in dishware.

  • What types of cafes offer OKAPI cups?

Our locations are a mix of coffeehouses and breakfast / lunch cafes, juice/smoothie bars, boba cafes, and cafes inside hotels. Neighborhood cafes with lots of regulars are ideal for OKAPI.

  • Who's behind OKAPI?
